Boys Division 1

The D1 Boys tournament seems wide open for the first time in several years, but being played on sport shot, three time defending champion Columbia Central may again be the favorite after a convincing destruction of a strong Walker Valley team.  Hardin County also has deep sport shot experience.  Can undefeated Smyrna get scoring from their non-sport shot vets, and is any team as hot as Lebanon.  Bartlett and Dobyns Bennett are lurking and could make a move, and can Hendersonville regain their swagger.

Boys Division 2

A year ago, in the state semifinals, St Benedict and McCallie bowled one of the best head to head matches in TSSAA state history, a 2848-2846 and 14-13 bout of intense action.  As both teams seem to be on a collision course for the finals this year, we can only hope for another sensational matchup.

Girls Division 2

In reality, although there are a number of girls teams looking to break through, this will be another showdown of West powers St Agnes and St Benedict.  Look for St Agnes to reverse the past couple seasons and defeat St Benedict for the title.

TSSAA Individual Preview

Boys Division 1

With two time defending champion, Cole Flatt (Columbia Central) ineligible, this is a wide open division.  With the change from house shot to sport shot at the individual tournament, the favorites fall on some of the top bowlers with extensive experience at sport shot.  Jr Gold semifinalists Ross Jenner (Collierville) and Calin Meeks (Hardin County) will be favorites, along with Tennessee Road To The Gold and SSJBA Tour vets Jonathan Colbaugh and Luke Flatt (Columbia Central).  Robert Morris-Chicago signee Kyle Dotson (Tullahoma) is a powerful two-handed lefty, while top level consistency will keep Matt Long (Soddy Daisy) and Wyatt Patterson (Hendersonville) in the mix.

Other top contenders include powerful two handers Jonah Anderson (White House), Josh Meeke (Smyrna) and Savyon Pipes (Hardin County).  Briton Helton (Walker Valley), Ryan Ransom (Upperman) and Tyler Smith (Bolton) are high average bowlers capable to making the adjustment to sport shot.  Terry Salvant III (Middle College) is a finalist from a year ago and will be dangerous on the right pattern.

There are a number of darkhorse contenders, most of whom can step up and be in finalist contention if they overcome sport shot inexperience and/or inconsistency.  This is list is not at all complete as there may be a dozen or more other bowlers who may fit in this category.  The Division 1 Boys are always incredibly deep and will produce suprise finishers as happens every year.

 FAVORITES                                TOP CONTENDERS                       DARKHORSE CONTENDERS
Jonathan Colbaugh, Columbia Central      Jonah Anderson, White House          Peyton Bell, Lebanon

Wyatt Patterson, Hendersonville          Tyler Smith, Bolton                  Hunter Whitaker, Siegel

Girls Division 1

The discussion in Girls Division 1 starts with the top contenders attempting to dethrone two time defending champion Ashley Channell (Hardin County).  Leading the charge is freshman and Team Puerto Rico member Sarah Sanes (Blackman).  Also dangerous are four time qualifiers and two time finalists Sydney Jahns (Siegel) and McKenna Shaffer (Sevier County).  Returning finalists also include Camy Barber (Brentwood) and Ashlyn Barkdull (Stewarts Creek).  Lindsay Manning (Lebanon) is a top average bowler and sport shot experienced.

Darkhorse contenders include yet another four time qualifier, Jessica Giacobbi (Mt Juliet) who can score high on the right pattern.  Multiple time semifinalist Tierra Jackson (Middle College), rapidly improving senior Rachel Johnson (Hardin Valley) and freshman Natily Haro (Walker Valley) could have a say in the results.  Madison Beckner (White House) and Faith Welch (Hardin County) lead a group of girls from the top two teams, any of which are capable of making a statement at the TSSAA Tournament.

Boys Division 2

Defending champion Donny Turner (Friendship Christian) looks to repeat to cap off a great TSSAA record of two championships and four times as finalist.  Top Contenders include former champion Ross Dewey (Donelson Christian), returning runner up Connor Nichols (St Benedict), finalist Nick Agnew (St Benedict), and Jimmy Morrow (MUS) will provide significant challenges.

Other darkhorse contenders who can get hot at the right time are Nick Norton (Friendship Christian), Ben Couthard (Montgomery Bell), Christian Smith (Harding Academy) and Jackson Stanley (Christian Brothers).  Jay Moorefield leads a group of bowlers from McCallie who are capable of placing high.
