Top Bowling Match:
Individually, my top bowling match came against USN in the TSSAA District finals last year. I bowled a personal best 266 in the second game and also ended up bowling my high series. My favorite team bowling match came in the State tournament last year, as we faced McCallie in the first round of the team portion. We were definitely considered the underdogs, going up against the #1 team. We started off the match being down 5-3 and only down 91 pins after the first game, but then took a 9-7 lead after the second game. We had brought the energy and put a scare into McCallie. However, they bowled a very good third game to win the match. While we lost the match, every other team on the lanes thought we had won based on the amount of energy we as a team brought. Even McCallie’s coach told us after the match we had been the best match they had the whole season.
How Has Bowling Helped You As A Person:
Bowling has pushed me from the beginning to try new things to make myself better. It took my whole first year to figure out how to bowl well and be competitive in match play, then ending last year finishing with a disappointing second-to-last in individuals after a relatively good regular season. Bowling has taught me how to take adversity and learn from it because it takes a while to become one of the best in your division. This year, it will teach me leadership as I became captain and will have to lead a team with practically every member being a first-time competitive bowler. My coaches (Jonathan Creamer, our head coach, and Chris Sanders, our assistant) have pushed me to be the best bowler and person I can be every day. Whether it be working on adding a few pins to my average to being the best captain for our team, my coaches have taught me everything about bowling and how to be a better person day in and day out.
How Has Attending MBA Helped You As A Person:
Attending MBA has helped grow me into a man, letting me find what I’m passionate about. Since coming to MBA, I have developed into a better person, student, and man overall. I have found areas in which I never thought I would become passionate in, bowling being one of them. If not for MBA, I wouldn’t have started bowling or writing for our school paper, two things I’m most passionate about. MBA has taught me the life lessons needed to become a successful gentleman later on in life.
What Are Your Goals This Year For Bowling And For The MBA Team:
This year, we lost 5 of our 6 starters from last year, so as a team, I want to use my captaincy to lead our team and all of our new bowlers throughout the season to hopefully peak by the playoffs and have a good showing in districts, regions, and hopefully end up making state. Personally, I want to qualify for the individual portion of the TSSAA tournament and at least make the final 6, hopefully ending the year with a state title.
Are You Looking To Lean Toward Sports Journalism, Or Something Different:
What I do with Journalism depends on what I'm needed for. I'm the sports editor for our school paper, The Bell Ringer, but I have written anything from sports to music reviews to opinion pieces. I like to write so much, so I will pursue writing as whatever would be needed, be it sports to opinions to features.
